I love these posts. Thanks for the tips guys. I'm listening to 6/8 now. Funny how John Scher or whoever was introducing them says something like "guess this is the start of the next 15 years." PG, I've already listened to a bunch of your favs including 7/14 a few times now. Love it. Speaking of Brent and scat, I know there is a Stranger out there from the 80's, maybe '84,where Brent scats over Jerry's big run up riff in Stranger. Anyone?

Normally I'll drop 8/21/83 here but I always mention that one. Two more that don't seem to get much press are 9/24/83 and 4/14/84

9/24 - Features the final electric Deep Elem Blues, pre-drums Truckin (rare placement during this time) with some big bombs and and post space UJB. And another monster China/Rider. IMO, between summer '82 and fall '83 is when this combo peaked - always fast and furious. One of the reviewers says that, "they are smoking out of the gate." I couldn't agree more. Was anyone at this show? http://www.archive.org/details/gd83-09-24.neumann.wiley.9200.sbeok.shnf

And then 4/14/84 - Please listen to the Stranger, Let it grow or the dew for validation. Blah..blah...blah...it's just another great show that you don't hear much about. After the playin>Terrapin jerry tries to do a playin reprise before saying "F'it," and bolting. http://www.archive.org/details/gd84-04-14.neumann.pj.1562.sbeok.shnf

Anyone else think that Oprah's picks were going to be more about unearthin' some hidden gems?

4-14-84 has always been one of my MOST favorite shows. It helps that I was there but I listen to it again and again for all the really fine playing.

Great call. (IMHO :|)

I really enjoy this forum, where else can you wake up and read someone's fine positive opinion on a show and be listening to a wonderful Terrapin while having coffee in the morning. Thanks for the 4/14/84 link, so far this 2nd set is exactly how I wanted to start my day. Hang loose.

I don't know what you guys think but I've been listening to 6-25-78 and it's AWSOME! The energy is amazing and the playing is pristine. They really raise the roof on this one. There are only about 5 reviews but all of them are glowing. I just picked it out this week-end from "the list" and about had a heart attack. Listen and let me know.

(an aside) - i hope this isn't a show that everyone knows about and i am the absolute last fool to hear it. that would be really embarassing :P

Hey, I also agree with Lewiston Me. I have always enjoyed that show. Didn't think of it as a sleeper though, I thought everyone loved it.

4/14/82 Glen Falls. Bob is terrible drunk, hick-ups in his vocals and eveything. Still turns in a remarkable performance, culminating in a first rate exploration of Playin' in the Band.
